"Chronological" simply means "in order"
Whether teaching professionals in one of Canada's urban centres or tribal people in the rain forest, our challenge as believers is to communicate the foundational precepts of Scripture in a clear and understandable way.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
If the Bible teaching began with this verse, it would raise many questions in the mind of the person with no Biblical foundations:
- God? Which God? There are so many...
- God loves? I thought God was angry...
- He gave? How much do I owe Him?
- He has a Son? Who is His wife?
- Believe what?
- Perish? Where? Why?
- Doesn't everyone live forever?
Chronological Bible teaching is that which starts "in the beginning" and introduces the Creator as He has revealed Himself to His creation; it systematically lays a solid foundation for both understanding the Gospel and for Christian growth.
The character and attributes of God form the foundation of all subsequent Bible teaching.
After the study of who God is, follows:
- Who is the Devil?
- Who are the angels?
- Who is Man?
- What is sin?
- Does sin interfere with Man's relationship with God ?
- Can Man fix this sin problem?
- What has God done to deal with this sin problem?
Lessons follow God's pattern of progressively revealing Himself and His plan of redemption within the context of human history. Progression is made through the Old Testament and the life of Christ, highlighting key themes that are crucial to a clear understanding of the Gospel. Because each lesson builds upon foundations laid in previous lessons, students see the Bible as a whole, see the panorama of God's working, and grow in their understanding of God's character. |
