MORE KUMANS IN CHRIST
December 3, 2003
Komba sat silent through Bible lessons being taught to the Kumans. But it made little sense to him until he spoke with missionary Will Tallman.
During the evangelistic Bible teaching Komba was intent on the words he was hearing, but when Will talked with him last week it was clear he hadn't understood and applied the message to himself.
He told Will, "I'm going to leave my family and my house and all others and go live deep in the rainforest where I won't be tempted to sin again. Then God won't punish me when I die."
After gently reminding Komba that he had already broken God's perfect law, Will asked him what he thought God would do about it.
Komba knew that God's Word said "all have sinned," and he understood that eternal separation from God was the result of sin. He asked if Will could explain again what Jesus did for men.
As Will reviewed Jesus' sacrificial death, Komba's eyes brightened and he exclaimed, "Yes, I believe that. Jesus paid for my sins on the cross and he died in my place to set me free from judgment. Jesus is my Savior!"
Komba has joined the ranks of several other Kumans of Papua New Guinea who recently put their faith in Christ.
"Our hearts have been greatly encouraged as we've met personally with those who have heard the Good News and have responded with great joy," Will wrote.
Amid the celebration however, the enemy is stirring up trouble. Boni, who is helping translate God's Word, is facing intense pressure from unbelievers to abandon the work.
Pray that Boni will stand against this challenge to his faith. His withdrawal from the translation team will not only affect his testimony, but would also be a setback to the translation process.
Praise God for the new Kuman believers and pray for their growth.
