Delegations from 17 villages came to a leadership conference for the Pacaas Novos church this month. Pacaas Novos pastors taught from Romans. Thank the Lord with us for the work He is doing among these people.

Christopher and Ginger Mackey arrived in Brazil last week, and are preparing to begin ministry there. Thank the Lord with us for the excellent progress they have made in learning Portuguese.

Missionary Zenilson Bezerra's recent check of a Bible translation got off to a slow start, but then went so well that one Pacaas Novos man said it was as if God's Word was speaking directly to him. Thank the Lord with us for good progress and clear translation.

Two manifestos were presented to congressmen Wednesday that support the work missionaries are doing in Brazil. Please pray that current legislation that would affect missionaries in tribal areas be impeded until the matter is looked at more thoroughly on a broader scale.

Brazilian congressmen address legislation

As congressmen met in Brazil on Wednesday they were presented with two manifestos concerning legislation that is currently in the presidential offices that would affect those ministering among tribal people.

One of the manifestos was written by tribal church leaders in which they express disagreement to the decree and request that indigenous communities be consulted regarding any document drawn up that affects them.

The second manifesto, written by the Brazilian Association of Cross Cultural Missions, offers a consistent explanation of current missionary activity in Brazil, from a legal, social and anthropological perspective.

After receiving these documents, congressmen decided that a commission of Federal Congressmen would coordinate and draw up a document to be delivered to the president's office. This document was to be delivered Thursday, and requests that the decree be discussed on a broad scale and redrawn to correct distortions and discrimination against missionaries.

Please pray for the ongoing discussions and treatment of this legislation. Join those in Brazil who are praying that the signing of the decree will be impeded until ample discussion on a broader scale can take place.
